Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. ~Pablo Picasso

As appealing as it has always seemed, there are a lot of downsides to becoming an adult. Responsibility can be a steep price to pay for all that independence you’ve longed for, ever since your favourite snack was put safely out of reach for later…

Beyond that initial heartbreak, life seems to have a lot of doom and gloom that can get on top of you. While this is useful to many artists out there (if you’re going to have a good mope, rest assured you have company) your childish desires are something you should definitely indulge in for as long as possible. You won’t be able to get away with that again until you’re running riot in one of those (more accurately titled) ‘granny race mobiles’. (And by then, hopefully some kind of hovercraft).

With too much sensibility you lose that all-important spontaneity that can lead to wonderful things. If we’re sensible all the time I swear we actually age faster. Make silliness a part of what you do everyday and unlock the same joy that a toddler gets in taking the train for the first time!

Dance like nobody’s watching, throw paint around, jump in puddles, eat dessert first, stay up late, make a den, sing loud and out of key. Feed your inner child and remember, you’re now tall enough to reach the treats on the top shelf!
